Dr. Winston Lee, a Doctor of Korean Medicine who earned his doctorate from Kyung Hee University in Korea, has run Dr. Acupuncture in Korean Medicine in Fullerton for the past four years. Between California and Korea, Dr. Lee has accumulated 21 years of clinical experience, including having served as the U.S. medical director for Jaseng Hospital of Korean Medicine.
Dr. Lee announced a new integrative care partnership with a nearby medical oncologist, aimed at maximizing the effectiveness of cancer treatment and supporting patients’ recovery. Under the partnership, Dr. Lee will provide complementary care — including electroacupuncture, electric cupping, and infrared dome therapy — for patients experiencing side effects commonly associated with cancer treatment, such as peripheral neuropathy, nausea, and various forms of pain. Dr. Lee will also continue to actively refer his own patients for conventional medical care whenever it is needed.
“Korean medicine can make a significant contribution to patients’ quality of life as a complement to cancer treatment, and this kind of collaboration between Western and Eastern medicine is already common practice in Korea. Through this partnership, I will do my best to make sure patients benefit from the strengths of both medicines.” — Dr. Winston Lee, Doctor of Korean Medicine, Ph.D.
Dr. Lee’s new partner is Dr. Sanghoon Ahn, a primary physician and oncologist graduated at Seoul National University and USC, who recently opened his own practice near St. Jude Medical Center in Fullerton — just a three-minute drive from Dr. Lee’s clinic. Dr. Ahn will refer his cancer patients to Dr. Lee for modern and integrative management of treatment-related side effects.
“The success of cancer treatment often depends on how well side effects are managed and whether patients are able to stay the course of treatment. I want my patients to know about the strengths Korean medicine offers in managing neuropathy, nausea, and pain.” — Dr. Sanghoon Ahn, Internal Medicine & Oncology
Both doctors plan to continue developing their collaborative care model through regular communication and case-sharing going forward.
